Core Position Framework:
As a Research Analyst II in Valuation Services at S&P Global, your primary mandate is to deliver valuation modeling and reporting services to marquee Venture Capital and Private Equity clients across US and APAC regions. Working within the Private Markets team, you will perform business valuations for early-stage venture-backed companies with complex capital structures, evaluate illiquid stock classes, review financial/legal source documents, build AICPA-compliant fair value reports, and refine proprietary financial modeling platforms.
Key Structural Responsibilities:
- Valuation Execution & Source Audit: Gather and analyze underlying financial statements, legal cap tables, and operating metrics to perform valuations of privately held portfolio companies.
- ASC 820 & Fair Value Compliance: Perform portfolio valuations for VC/PE funds and business valuations of early-stage startups following AICPA guidelines for Fair Value reporting.
- Quantitative Modeling: Utilize advanced mathematical models, including Black-Scholes Option Pricing Models (OPM), market approaches, and discounted cash flow methods.
- Client & Implementation Support: Assist Client Support Managers with technical request resolution and partner with Implementation teams to interpret financial contracts for onboarding.
- Platform Model Enhancement: Contribute to the continuous design, testing, and enhancement of S&P Global’s proprietary SaaS valuation software and financial analytics engines.
Required Technical Qualifications & Capabilities:
- Valuation Methodology Experience: Strong understanding and hands-on experience in business valuation methodologies, ASC 820 fair value accounting, or 409A valuation frameworks.
- Mathematical & Financial Acumen: Proficiency in quantitative financial modeling, including Black-Scholes OPM and capital structure waterfall calculations.
